Think Beyond the Candy this Halloween

Halloween is candy overload – but it doesn’t have to be! Why not think outside the box this year and opt for something a little healthier? I’m not saying to empty out your cupboards or junk drawers on unsuspecting children – but instead take a look at this list of non-candy Halloween handout ideas that kids will still love – and the neighborhood parents will thank you for!

Every year my family has a big Halloween party with all of the aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Every year my kids practically go into sugar shock afterwards. So this year, I decided to come up with a few items to hand out to the kids that went beyond the traditional candy.

8 Non-Candy Halloween Handout Ideas

1. Stonyfield Organic Fruit Snacks

These are new and my kids love them! But why wouldn’t they – Stonyfield Organic Fruit Snacks are sweet like fruit, squishy, and shaped like little cows. They are made with real fruit and vegetable juices and no artificial flavors or preservatives. Plus they are individually packaged making them easy to hand out at Halloween.

2. Halloween Pencils

My kids love to collect pencils to use and exchange at school. So whenever we need to pick up items for a goodie bag, pencils are always a first choice. This is why Halloween pencils made our list this year as fun things to pass out.

3. Glow Sticks

This sounds like a fun idea – not only can the kids use them right away but helping kids to be seen while trick or treating is always a good thing.

4. Boxes of Crayons

Look for the mini boxes of crayons that have 3-4 crayons in them. Sometimes you can even find little coloring book and crayon packaged sets to hand out. These are a great idea for kids of all ages!

5. Plastic Bugs or Snakes

Fill a bucket with plastic snakes and bugs for the kids to reach their hands in to and grab a few. Not only will it provide some fun decoration in your home leading up to the big night, but it will give the kids something to play with.

6. Fake Tattoos

I found big bags of temporary tattoo’s this year at the store. They were placed in boxes and ready to hand out – plus the price was very similar to what buying a big bag of candy was.

7. Bat or Spider Rings

This was my daughters choice and we found them in large quantity pretty inexpensively.

8. Bottles of Water

All of the Halloween fun and activity can make one thirsty! Go ahead – be different.
