This year, my goal for 2015 is to be healthier. This goal does not only mean that I want to loose weight, however. Yes, loosing a few pounds would be nice, but for me, I just want to feel better and I want to gain energy that will last the day (because seriously, what mom doesn’t need that?!). Plus, you see, over the last few years I have had some annoying medical issues, some of which were related to diet. So this year, I decided that I was going to take action, eat better, exercise more and not give up (like I’ve done every other year). This may be a difficult task though because I think the only goal that I haven’t given up on shortly after starting was my blog. So if I want to actually make this goal work and give myself opportunity to succeed, then I need to find out what makes my blog dream different than any other dream I’ve had. To do this I sat and wrote down a couple of key lessons that I thought were important and useful in helping me reach my blogging goals over the last few years and then thought about how these lessons could be implemented to help me stay on course with other goals that I choose to start in my life.
Here is what I came up with:
Life Lessons Learned Through Blogging
#1 Set Goals
This is an important step. After all, we don’t know what we’re working towards unless we set some goals, right? However, setting goals can be difficult for some people. I mean, you don’t want to set your goals too low and not push yourself far enough, but on the other hand, what if you set them so high that they are impossible to reach? Is there a good spot to set them? Personally, I don’t actually set definite goals, such as a target weight or distance traveled. I set my goals by what I want to accomplish, an end result. For this scenario, my goal is to feel better overall and everything else that comes along with that, from exercise and better eating, is just a benefit. Doing this helps me to stay looking straight ahead (at the big picture) instead of down at my feet where I might stumble on the rocks (the details).
#2 Have the Right Tools
For my blog, obviously I need to have a computer and a way to access the internet. That is the basics of what I need to do my job. However, as I began to enjoy blogging even more, I started to look for other tools that could make what I do even more enjoyable or save me time from having to do the same task repetitively. Just like there are many tools to help me along the way as I grow as a blogger, there are also tools that can help me on my way to a healthier lifestyle.
For me, I love to exercise to music. It motivates me and helps me get into “a zone”. Without music, I have a tendency to loose interest quickly or become distracted by shiny things around me. . or a squirrel (SQUIRREL). So, one of the fun tools that I picked up for this journey is the new Intel SMS Audio Biosport earbuds. #3 Know How to Use Your Tools

There is also a cute little button on the strings that allows me to easily turn on and off the heart rate monitor, click through music tracks or pause/play music without having to pull out my phone repetitively. Plus, this cute little button also works as an inline microphone for answering calls while the earbuds are plugged in (to use the phone mode, simply switch off the heart rate monitor). I loved that with minimal set up time, I was ready to start using this new tool.
#4 Ask for Help
Through blogging and this fitness journey alike, I understand that I sometimes need to ask for help. There are always people who know more than me and who can help me through times of struggle. Don’t be embarrassed to seek these people out, either to ask questions or simply for support. For this journey, my husband and I are leaning on each other for support and are walking this road together.
#5 Know Where You Stand
Trust me, no ones starts off blogging with an amazing blog and lots of followers. Just the same, no one starts off a fitness journey in perfect shape. We all have to start somewhere. For this reason, I think it is important to know where you stand and where you started. Comparing yourself to someone who has been doing this a lot longer than you isn’t a fair comparison and will only cause discouragement.
#6 Believe in Yourself
Pretty self explanatory right? Then why is this the hardest lesson of all to learn? To be honest, I struggle with believing in myself and my goals sometimes too. This is something that I am still working on because I believe that it is important.

After sitting and writing down a few key lessons that I believe have helped me reach other goals in my life, I am ready to take these same goals and implement them into reaching my fitness goals over the next year.
